Fat Lava – German ceramics of the 60s and 70s

There were many manufactures of Fat Lava ceramics in West Germany. Each manufacturer had their own particular style of this glaze, thus the unique pieces that one can come across when hunting for these beautiful art pieces are plentiful. Lava glazing was used on all shapes and sizes of decorative vases and pots.

This one is from the U-Keramik decorated with a blue back ground with a nice textured lilac lava glaze dripping down from the top and from the bottom up as well. A very decorative and a highly collectible European art ceramics. This piece is marked on the base with W. Germany and 1203/18 (the first two numbers are hard to make out but I believe they are “1 and 2”.

The vase measures 7 ½ high and 4’ wide. Excellent condition.
