A whimsical designer vintage ‘© JJ Jewelry Company’ initial “N” brooch depicting a true characteristics of a mischievous cat and with beautiful fancy cut rhinestones. Great detail on the cat and the fish, which is articulated with a small jump ring. Pewter finish.
This vintage designer costume brooch is in excellent condition. It is signed ©JJ in back and closes with a secure working clasp.
Measurements are 1-1/2" in length by about 1-1/2" in width.
Did you know: The Jonette Jewelry Co, aka JJ, was located in East Providence, NJ,and founded in 1935 by Abraham Lisker. Originally they were called the "Providence Jewelry Company", then changed their name to "Lisker and Lisker" when Abraham’s brother Nathan joined them in the business. When World War II started they stopped production. They then began using the name "Jonette Jewelry" after the war was over, the name came from their parents names,"John" and "Etta".
In 1970, they started using the copyright "JJ" stamp on all pieces made. In 1986 they registered the popular Artifacts mark, they also have a pewter line of western animals with the "Santa Fe" mark.
The company became famous for their novelty pins featuring animals,charms and Art Deco motifs with rhinestone details.
Sadly in Sept 2006 Jonette Jewelry Co closed their doors due to foreign competition and market conditions. They had been in business around 69 years.
